The 24-Form Taijiquan—also known as Simplified Taijiquan—was compiled in 1956 by the Chinese National Sports Commission, which organized a group of Taijiquan experts to distill the essence of the Yang-style Taijiquan. Although it consists of only 24 movements, compared to traditional Taijiquan routines, its content is more streamlined, its movements are more standardized, and it fully embodies the distinctive characteristics of Taijiquan.

24-Form Tai Chi — The Essence of Traditional Yang-Style Tai Chi

The 24-form Simplified Tai Chi has undergone more than six decades of development and has become a landmark in the history of Tai Chi worldwide. Known and practiced by people of all ages and genders, it is arguably one of the most widely recognized Tai Chi routines, with countless practitioners and learners across the globe.

Short Practice Time

A complete set of the 24-Form Tai Chi takes only about 3 to 5 minutes to perform. In today’s fast-paced world, people’s schedules are already packed with work, study, and daily responsibilities, making it difficult to find extra time for exercise. The 24-Form Tai Chi, however, requires only a small amount of time while still providing a well-rounded workout that benefits both body and mind.

Easy to Remember and Learn

Traditional long-form Tai Chi routines, such as those from the Chen, Yang, Wu, Wu (Hao), and Sun styles, usually require at least ten days of continuous practice just to memorize and learn the complete sequence of movements—sometimes even longer for slower learners. In comparison, the 24-Form Tai Chi is much simpler and easier to pick up, making it an ideal choice for people with busy schedules.

Simpler Movements, Same Benefits

Many people believe that the 24-Form Tai Chi is too simple to deliver real exercise benefits. In fact, what has been simplified are only the movements and postures, while the training methods and core principles remain intact. Through regular practice, it can still effectively strengthen the body and help regulate both physical and mental well-being.
